What really is St Patty’s day… A holiday thats dedicated to a religious celebration that is held on March 17th but the kicker is not everyone has to be IRISH to celebrate!! Grab your green, some friends, and favorite beverage and get ready to prepare for one of the most exciting holidays of the year! Here is a few tips & tricks to make your 2020 St Patricks Day a blast!

1. Green

Green and more green…. If you are heading to a party or even a parade you cannot and I repeat… CANNOT step out of the house without a piece of green on. Go to your local Target or Walmart if you are not looking to spend a large sum of money and grab a simple St Patty’s day shirt and some 4 leaf clover beads. If you are really feeling the holiday spirit, there are many ways to really make yourself stand out! Start by finding bright green pants and if you’re LUCKY you might find pants with shamrocks on them! Don’t stop there.. look for a green suit jacket and a big green hat to complete the Leprechaun look!

2. St. Patty’s Day Facts

For those of you who are not fully sure why we celebrate a “green” holiday, there is an interesting background to it! St Patricks Day is a cultural and religious celebration that takes place every year on March 17th. It is also known as the Feast of Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick was the foremost patron saint in Ireland. The Holiday was made as an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century that was observed by the Catholic Church. Most celebrations involve parades, festivals and wearing green shamrocks.

3. Party Ideas

Need some decoration inspiration? Start with the food and drinks you are going to serve. Starting early in the morning before the parade maybe? How about a green mimosa bar! Get your champagne and orange juice and all you need is a few drops of green food coloring and you are ready to go! Did someone say shots? Make some lime flavored jello shots and pass them around! Most bakeries such as Brueggers will make green bagels, stock up on them and serve them at your party with some green butter. Looking for easy little snacks? Try green chocolate covered pretzels, it is the perfect sweet and salty snack everyone craves. Another easy snack to serve is an all green veggie platter! There are many green veggies and fruits such as broccoli, cucumbers, celery, apples, green grapes, green pepper and more! You can even add green food coloring to the veggie dip to really impress your guests.

4. Decorations

Decorating for the holiday is a big deal! In order to get in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit you really have to make the vibe around you extra fun! Start with the snack bar, you can get green table cloths to cover the tables where you are putting the food. On top of the table cloths, find little shamrocks to scatter and fake gold coins. Do you have an open doorway where you can hang some fun streamers? Perfect! Get all the colors in the rainbow and hang them so your guests have to walk through them while coming inside. It will almost be like following the rainbow to find the pot of gold at the end!
