A regulation soccer field is 300-390 feet long by 150-300 feet wide, not including the grass surrounding the field for benches, out-of-bounds, and bleachers. This area of just the field can vary between 1.03 and 2.69 acres. Youth soccer fields vary greatly by age group, typically 45-75 feet wide by 165-240 feet long. U6-U8 fields are 75-105 feet long by 45-75 feet wide (0.08-0.18 acres), U9-U10 fields are 165-195 feet long by 105-135 feet wide (0.60-0.40 acres), U11-U12 fields are 210-240 feet long by 135-165 feet wide (0.65-0.91 acres), and most other fields are regulation size for high school, college, semi-pro, and professional games. Once you determine the size of the field, also add in any grass to be mowed surrounding the field to determine the total acres of mowable grass.
A standard American football field is 300 feet long by 160 feet wide, not including the 30-yard end zones. By this measurement, a football field is 1.32 acres of mowable grass.Typically these fields will have at least 20 feet of a border to accommodate benches and spectator areas, most likely much more. With a 20-foot border surrounding the field, this would increase the grass space to be mowed to a total of 1.84 acres.
When ordering, if you want just the field mowed, select our 1.25-1.50 acre option. For a standard border of 20-feet, select the 1.75-2.00 acre option. If the border around your football field is larger, add a quarter-acre for every additional space of 104ft by 104ft or use Google maps to measure the length and width to get the total square footage to convert to acres (10,890 sq ft is a quarter of an acre, a full acre is 43,560 sq ft).
Little league baseball fields typically have 60 feet between each base and outfield fences at 225 feet from home base. Larger baseball fields for high school, college, and regulation have 90 feet between each base, and outfield fences vary from a minimum distance of 325 feet between home plate and the left and right fences, and a minimum of 400 feet between home plate and the center of the outfield fence.
Little league baseball fields are typically at least 1.5 acres, other youth baseball fields are 2 or more acres, and a regulation baseball field for high school, college, major league, and minor league teams is around 4.5 acres. For the most accurate measurement of your field, you should use Google Maps to draw the perimeter of the grass area and get the total sq ft to convert to acres (10,890 sq ft is a quarter of an acre, a full acre is 43,560 sq ft).
Softball fields vary in size from 55-foot baselines to 65-foot baselines. For a softball field with 55-foot baselines, the distance from home plate to the outfield fence is 150 feet at the left and right sides, and 175 feet to the center, for a total of approximately 0.51-0.7 acres. For softball fields with 60-foot baselines, the distance from home plate to the outfield fence is 200 feet at the left and right sides and 225 feet at the center, for a total of approximately 0.92-1.16 acres. For softball fields with 65-foot baselines, the distance from home plate to the outfield fence is 265 feet at the left and right sides and 315 feet at the center, for a total of approximately 1.16-2.28 acres. These estimates do not include the surrounding grass areas for stands and benches so it’s always best to estimate the square footage on an aerial map to calculate the acreage.
A lacrosse field is typically 60 yards wide by 110 yards long (excluding surrounding areas for benches and fans. This would be a total of 1.36 acres just for the field. A lax field with ample room for fans and benches around the field is probably 2-3 acres total. A smaller youth lacrosse field could be 70 yards long by 25 yards wide for a total of 0.12 acres. To best estimate the total acreage, use an aerial map to find the total square footage of the mowable grass to calculate the total number of acres to cut.
