Now, homeowners and property managers can easily and quickly hire a professional gardener to install or maintain their flower beds or lawns.

Weed Removal

Weed removal is one of the most highly requested services from homeowners. Many weeds are unsightly, and they grow by taking precious resources (e.g. sun, soil nutrients, water) from the flowers, grass and plants that you actually want to grow. Removing those weeds first requires you to identify the unwanted weeds, since they can often blend in to look like plants you might want early on. Once identified, the weeds need to be pulled from the roots. Weeds can dig in very well, making them difficult to remove. Even when they are removed from the root, they will often re-grow, especially if there is still bare soil for them to occupy. This means weed removal isn’t typically a one-time job. Regular maintenance will keep the weeds at bay, while adding weed barriers, more plants, and mulch can help keep them suppressed.

Pruning

For homeowners who have their plants, shrubs and flowers growing well, pruning is another popular service request. Much like weeds, identification is key. Knowing the types of plants, and what they need to stay healthy will help keep them growing properly. Finding dead, dying and diseased branches and then making the appropriate cuts will promote healthy growth. Some plants, shrubs and hedges can grow so well that they start to take over your landscaping. Keeping those plants trimmed will keep your yard and home looking great every year. A professional gardener can take the guess work out of this process and help you save a lot of time and energy.

How Plowz & Mowz Gardening Service Works

Ready to get started improving and maintaining your landscapes? It’s easy!

First, make sure your PLOWZ & MOWZ app is up to date by checking your app store. Then, once you login, choose Gardening Services on the dashboard.

Next, describe what kind of service you need. The more specific you are, the easier it will be for the gardener to complete your task. We also encourage you to upload any photos you have of the areas that need work. These photos will help the gardener come prepared and ensure they are taking care of the correct plants.

Gardening is an hourly service, so you’ll be hiring a gardener for a set amount of time. One thing to note, is that we go by “man-hours” here. If you choose an hour worth of time, you may have one gardener working for an hour, or two gardeners working for 30 minutes. We know estimating how long your project will take a pro can be difficult. If you overestimate the amount of time needed, we will be able to refund a portion of the service. If you underestimate the time, we will reach out to get your approval on adding extra time.

How Long Will It Take?

How much work can be done in an hour depends on various factors. For an average amount and length of weeds, you can expect around 100 square feet to be cleared in an hour. If the weeds are taller, or more densely packed than average, you can expect a smaller area to be completed in that same hour. The type of weed can also change the amount of work done. For example, vines can be difficult to remove, especially if they are wrapped tightly around plants or other objects. Poison ivy, plants with thorns or an area with bees or other dangerous insects can also cause trouble, resulting in less work per hour.

For pruning and trimming, you can expect your gardener to spend an average of 20 minutes per plant. Naturally, larger or overgrown plants will take longer. Some smaller plants and flowers can take longer than average due to the extra care they will need.

After the Service

Any yard waste will be left by the curb for pickup by your town. You can also note on your service if you’d like the yard waste to be left elsewhere on your property, such as your compost pile. If your town does not pick up yard waste from the curb, we will also have a haul away debris option for an additional fee.

Weeds may return even when pulled from the root. We recommend regular weed control services, and we offer automatically recurring services through our app. After the initial weed removal, you will likely see fewer weeds return in the future, so you may be able to hire a gardener for fewer hours. For further weed control, our gardeners recommend adding weed barrier fabric, mulch and some type of edging around your flower beds.
