1. Lawnmower
If your home has a lawn of any size you’ll need some sort of lawn mower. There’s plenty of options, some are better for small lawns like a reel or electric mower, and others like gas walk or riding mowers are better for larger lawns. Make sure to do your research to see what’s best for your property.
2. Snow Shovel
If you live in a northern or mountainous area, snow if a real expectation every winter. Even if you have a snow removal contract, a shovel is a good idea in case there’s snow before or after the plow guy comes.
3. Rake
Leaves fall during, well, fall. When autumn hits, don’t forget to rake your leaves to keep the grass underneath from being negatively affected. Most municipalities have some sort of option for leaf pickup, but other areas you may need to start a compost pile or hire a service to rake and remove the leaves.
4. Leaf Blower
If you have a larger yard, a leaf blower can save hours of back-breaking work raking the leaves. This is a great option if you also have a place in the yard like a wooded area to simply push the leaves to decompose naturally.
5. Weed-eater
Trimming areas of your lawn where the mower doesn’t hit can make the difference in a presentable lawn versus just doing the bare minimum. Weed-wackers make it easy to trim the excess grass from around trees, along fences, beside your house, or next to any other immovable obstacles.
6. Loppers
Loppers are the landscaping equivalent of giant scissors. It’s important to trim back plants to make sure they don’t grow outside of the allotted space and crowd out surrounding plants.
7. Shears
Shears are a gardeners best friend. These are your precision scissor tools to trim specific pieces of plants. They can be very helpful if you’re taking cuttings to propagate a plant into a new location or even just collecting your flowers to bring them inside for a vase.
8. Hedge Trimmer
Hedge trimmers are great if you have many large plants to trim back regularly. They save you time and make maintenance a breeze.
9. Saw/Chainsaw
For larger yards with many trees, you may need to consider buying and learning how to safely use a chainsaw. Preventing dying or dead trees from dropping large limbs or falling over on anything is essential to home ownership. It can also be helpful if you ever want to remove branches or entire trees that are in the way of your next project.
