Do you want to be the talk of the neighborhood at every block party? Then it’s time you start competing with your neighbors for the best-looking lawn on your block.  But healthy, greens lawns don’t just happen over night. Lawns needs your full attention to start and stay looking their best.

Yard envy is a real thing.  And if you’ve fallen victim to it then you’ve come to the right place. We’re sharing a few tips to help you become the talk of the town, the yard that everyone wants to emulate in the neighborhood.

Here are a few easy tips to keep your lawn looking its best:

Lawn Aeration

Lawn aeration will give you that beautiful, healthy-looking green lawn that you’ve been wishing for.  In simple terms, lawn aeration is punching hundreds of small holes throughout your lawn about 3 inches deep. This loosens up the soil, which allows the roots to soak up air, nutrients, and water better. By doing this your lawn will have better drainage within the soil allowing the lawn to take on water and nutrients more easily.  Lawn aeration should typically be done in early fall.

Mow Smart

Cutting your grass too often or too short is not good for your lawn and can kill the roots and allow weeds to grow. Torn up grass is more likely to be filled with unwanted bugs/pests.  Finding the right medium in grass length, about 2-3 inches, will help keep your lawn healthy and looking its best.

Water Properly

The ideal time to water your lawn is in the early morning. The sun can be used as a tool to help dry up grass after watering.  Do not water your lawn at night because the moisture can stay in the grass and mold, mushrooms and fungus will begin to grow.  Your lawn only needs one inch of water per week, including rainfall.  You want the lawn to soak up the water but not be drowning in it.

Fertilization

Fertilization is key to a happy and healthy lawn.  Your lawn requires the correct nutrients, like nitrogen, to continue to grow. Regularly fertilizing your grass helps provide the nutrients needed for your grass to grow thicker, healthier, and look great! And remember when fertilizing, less is more.

Curb Appeal

In caring for your lawn, appearance plays a major factor. A well-kept lawn is one of the first things people notice as they pass by your home. The dead and bare spots covering your lawn can be major eyesores and it’s time to get rid of those.  Sod or sowing grass seed are two ways to solve these noticeable issues.
